Sudan’s army denies reports that S. Sudan rebels occupies area in Southern Kordofan
September 24th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan army denied on Monday reports that South Sudan rebels are occupying an area in the country’s Southern Kordofan state.
Between Sunday and Monday, some Sudanese media houses alleged that South Sudan rebel forces loyal to General Johnson Olony were occupying an area in Sudan’s Southern Kordofan state.
The reports alleged that the rebel soldiers was collecting illegal taxes from residents of Abu Nawara of Abu Jabaiha locality in Southern Kordofan state.
However, the Sudanese army rubbished in a statement on Monday the news saying the reports are untrue and it was in control of the whole country and was protecting the sovereignty of Sudan.
“Some newspapers and social media [users] reported on Sunday of attacks by rebel forces belonging to state of South Sudan and that they occupied large areas in Southern Kordofan states and assaulting the citizens of the region such as farmers and herdsmen and robbed their money,” the statement seen by the Nyamilepedia partly read.
“The Armed Forces is hereby making it very clear that this news is untrue and unbalanced and affirms its commitment to protecting the lives of the citizens and its ability to deter anyone working to destabilize the nation,” the statement added.
The statement further urged the “citizens not to pay attention to such rumors and the Armed Forces will continue to do their duty to fulfill the promises and secure the homeland.”
