September 23rd 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved a proposal of $17.7 million to finance education in South Sudan’s unity, Upper Nile, Eastern Equatoria state and Jonglei.

The project which aims at improving access to basic education for children in these South Sudanese states will target 30,000 children, rehabilitate 35 schools and enhance the capacity of 2,000 teachers.

“Rebuilding education systems during and after crisis education as is envisaged by the project is crucial in conflict and fragile situations because it will help to provide security, facilitate peace building, and foster resilience,” said the Bank’s country manager for South Sudan, Benedict Kanu.

“Therefore, the Bank’s investment in basic education for the children of South Sudan will help to create the building blocks for a productive workforce and revitalized national development.”
