September 22nd 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A former South Sudan minister and opposition figure has unveiled a new proposal for the final status of the disputed Abyei Area which has been one of the pending issues between Sudan and South Sudan

The proposed deal was drafted by Nyenagwek Kuol Mareng, an ex-Warrap state minister of information – who recently resigned as member of the SPLM Former Political Detainees (FDs) following controversy over her decision to vote for the return to ten state during IBC’s June vote on the number of states.

The final status of Abyei will be the “Recognition of the popular referendum of Abyei people on October 31st 2013 and the establishment of separate administrations for Ngok-Dinka and Ajaira-Misseriya in Abyei and Muglad respectively as recommended by the United Nation’s Security Council Resolution number 2445 on November 15th 2018.”

The deal also proposed that South Sudan should grant citizenship to all the people of Abyei including the “Ajaira-Misseriya who wish to acquire the nationality of the republic of South Sudan.”

According to the deal “The oil revenue of Abyei Area will continue to be divided between South Sudan and Sudan as per the CPA protocol of 2004.”

Developmental projects such as joint free duty markets in the border between Ngok-Dinka land and Ajaira-Misseriya land, tarmac and railway roads as well as any other integrated mega developmental projects will be constructed and established between Abyei and Muglad to enhance businesses activities and expedite developmental processes between the Ngok-Dinka and Ajaira-Misseriya communities.
