September 18th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s rival parties will meet in the capital Juba today to discuss the final report of the Independent Boundaries Commission (IBC), according to an invitation letter seen by Nyamilepedia.

The two-day meeting is organized by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) which mediated the revitalized peace agreement signed last year by the government of President Salva Kiir Mayardit and several opposition groups.

According to the invitation letter, the parties are expected to discuss the final report of the IBC and then continue to dialogue to reach a consensus on the number and boundaries of the states which has been one of the sticking points in the peace process.

“….. the Office of the IGAD Special Envoy for South Sudan invites you to participate at the parties’ consultations on the IBC final report to discuss the number of states and their boundaries from 18th to 19th September 2019 in Juba, South Sudan,” the invitation letter partly read.

Last week, South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit and main armed opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny agreed during a meeting in Juba to form a committee to “deliberate” on the final report of the IBC and try to find a solution.

The principals said if the committee fail to find a solution, the two men would the take the final decision on how many states should South Sudan have.
