Advocacy group welcomes Kiir-Machar meeting in Juba

September 11th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – An advocacy group has welcomed the face-to-face meeting between South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit and his arch rival Dr. Riek Machar Teny in which the two leaders discussed matters impeding the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement.

The International Youth for Africa (IYA), a non-governmental entity and a South Sudanese human rights organization, said the important meeting between the two leaders is a commencement of building a nation and a welcome move by all South Sudanese especially refugees in Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Sudan and Internally Displace Persons to regain the trust of their leaders in South Sudan.

IYA’s Executive Director, Ter Manyang Gatwech, urge both Kiir and Machar to “take a bold decision on pending issues like. Security arrangements especially trainings of unified protection forces and cantonments for all forces in the country.”

He also urged them to expedite the registration of personnel, accounting for weapons and equipment, screening, re-organization and/or disarmament, and demobilization is urgently needed to be done within this month for South Sudanese refugees and Internally Displace Persons to regain the trust of their leaders in South Sudan.

The issue of States to which the members of Independent Boundaries Commission (IBC) could not be decision of Kiir and Machar. This is need opinions and referendum for all ordinary citizens. IYA urge the country’s leaders to go to back to 10 states. The current 32 states are the one fuel conflicts and calamities between south Sudanese communities.

IYA’s executive Director, Ter Manyang Gatwech say there is need for both Kiir and Machar has responsibility to take South Sudan forward without involvement of Uganda, Kenya, and Ethiopia, Sudan or Western world.
