The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation welcomes the face-to-face talks between the two leaders. 

Sept 10, 2019(Nyamilepedia) — As the face-to-face meeting between South Sudan’s main rival leaders has added a fresh impetus to progress in the implementation of the peace deal, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on Monday welcomed the meeting between the Sudanese parties and the recent direct meeting between President Kiir Mayardit and main armed opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar in the capital, Juba. 

“The MFA&IC would like to inform that the official meeting between the Sovereign Council of Sudan and the opposition groups is currently taking place in Juba, and the arrival of Dr. Riek Machar to Juba is a major step towards the realization of peace and stability in the two sisterly countries”

“These current developments are geared toward efforts of the H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit and the parties to the Revitalized ARCSS, and to ensure that the deadline for the formation of R TGONU is met as stipulated in the IGAD Council of Ministers communique of 8th May 2019 in Juba, for the extension of the Pre-Transitional Period for six months.”

South Sudan’s Parties held face-to-face talks on Monday in Juba, during the meeting, which aims to discuss outstanding issues hampering the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement, the two leaders agreed to fast track the security arrangements process, by ensuring the timely mobilization and training of the presidency forces.

The Parties reaffirmed their strong commitment to the formation of the Transitional Government of National Unity which is expected to be established in the next few months.
