September 9th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s presidency said on Monday that the visit by main armed opposition leader, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, to Juba is a very positive step in the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement.

President Salva Kiir and Machar signed a revitalized peace agreement in September last year to end the civil war which begun in 2013 following a dispute at a national convention for the ruling SPLM party.

Machar returned to Juba on Monday morning for the first time since last September. He was accompanied by Sudan’s deputy chairman of the Sovereignty Council General Mohamed Hamdan Daglo/Hemeti and a huge delegation.

The main armed opposition leader who is expected to be reinstated back as First Vice-President when the government is formed in November may stay in Juba for days according to his spokesman.

In a statement on Monday, Ateny Wek Ateny, Kiir’s Press Secretary, said Machar’s return is a positive step in the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement signed by the government and several opposition groups.

The coming of Dr. Riek Machar to Juba today, is a very positive step towards implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement on the Resolution of Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan,” Ateny wrote on Twitter.

I am certain that President Kiir is doing his utmost best to work with Dr. Riek Machar,” Ateny added.
