August 24th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s National Security Service (NSS) has today released detained al-Watan newspaper editor-in-chief Michael Christopher, sources said.

National Security Service (NSS) officers arrested him at Juba International Airport on July 15 while boarding a plane with his wife for Nairobi.

They forced him off the plane, confiscated his passport, and told him to report to the NSS headquarters where he was later arrested and detained since then without charges.

His detention ignited an international outcry with rights groups as well as world bodies such as the UN calling for his unconditional release.

Speaking to Nyamilepedia this afternoon, a source in Juba said Michael Christopher was released and was leaving the national security headquarters also known as the Blue House.

“He has just been released and few minutes ago he was walking out of the National Security headquarters,” the source said.
