August 23rd 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) which mediated the revitalized peace agreement has said that 50% of the unified forces must be in place before the end of September.

The government and opposition groups signed a peace deal in September lsat year to end one of Africa’s brutal civil wars in the world’s youngest country.

The parties were to form a government last May but because critical tasks like the issue of forces were not completed, they decided that the government formation be extended for November and as the dateline looms, the IGAD convened a meeting of the parties in Addis Ababa to deliberate on the way forward.

Following the meeting of the parties in Addis Ababa on Wednesday, the IGAD Issued a communique saying half of the unified forces must be in place before the end of September.

“[The IGAD] resolves that at least 50% of the 83,000 necessary unified forces should be cantoned and barracked, trained and deployed before the end of September 2019,” the communique partly said.
