Rebel forces captures government base in Northern Bahr El-Ghazal

August 16th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan rebel forces have captured a government base in the country’s Northern Bahr El-Ghazal state, a rebel spokesman said in a statement.

Sunday de’John, a spokesman for General Paul Malong’s South Sudan United Front/Army (SSUF/A) said in a statement that the rebel group have captured War Ayen government base for Division 3 in Northern Bahr El-Ghazal state.

“Today morning, as they staged resistance following yesterday’s sustained aggression, South Sudan United Front/Army advancing forces managed to take War-Ayen from the aggressive SSPDF,” the statement partly read.

“The combat which lasted for over 2 hours ended with SSUF/A capturing War-Ayen garrison and the Brigade 16 of Division 3 commander in the person of Brigadier Atak Mahdi while neutralizing other notable officers,” the statement added.

It the statement further said in a related development that “over 121 officers, NCOs and men opted to join the SSUF/A, switching sides from SSPDF with high moral.”
