Opposition commander, troops abandons Changson, joins Khalid Butros’ NAS faction
August 16th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A rebel commander of the Federal Democratic Party/South Sudan Armed Forces (FDP/SSAF) led by Gabriel Changson Chang has declared his decision to defect to National Salvation Front (NAS) faction led by General Khalid Butrous according to a statement extended to Nyamilepedia.
Major General Baba Kaku Aturuk who reportedly commands FDP/SSAF forces in Upper Nile’s Jonglei said he defected with over 5000 troops previously loyal to Changson.
“I Major General Baba Kaku Aturuk, along with forces of five thousand seven hundred (5,700), comprising of officers, non-commissioned officers (NCOS) and men asserts our defection from Federal Democratic Party/South Sudan Armed Forces (FDP/SSAF) under leadership of Hon. Gabriel Changson Chang to officially join National Salvation Front, under proficient leadership of Lt. General Khalid Butrus Bora,” General Kaku said in a statement he extended to Nyamilepedia Thursday
“We were stationed in the counties of Gumuruk, Pibor, and Likongole/Boma State and following this declaration our forces are now unifying with their brothers and sisters in Tenet cantonment site,” he added.
Nyamilepedia was unable to reach Changson’s FDP comment.
