Group refute claims that Malong has been replaced as SSUF leader
August 12th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A group allied to South Sudan United Front (SSUF) led by former army chief General Paul Malong Awan has denied reports that he has been replaced.
Last week, a rebel general previously allied to Malong told Nyamilepedia that they have removed him because he was against the revitalized peace agreement signed by government and several opposition groups in September last year.
“We have learnt with disdain that a group of seven individuals have been spreading false information about South Sudan United Front and Army. The group alleges that there has been a change of leadership in the resistance Movement and that H. E. Gen. Paul Malong has been ‘overthrown,'” a statement issued by SSUF student’s league chairman Makoi Majak and extended to Nyamilepedia said.
“On behalf of SSUF students and Youth League I wish to categorically dispel this as untrue and unfounded,” the statement said.
It further reiterated the full support of the SSUF membership to the leadership of General Malong who is under international sanctions for continued violence in South Sudan following the signing of the agreement in August 2015.
“His Excellency Paul Malong Awan is the Movement’s leader and Commander-in-Chief of our revolutionary armed forces. He has the full and absolute backing of both the political and military organization; and above all the unwavering support of the people of South Sudan,” the statement said.
“While respecting the freedom of expression on one hand, responsible media houses on the other hand are expected to expend sufficient efforts to verify the authenticity and reliability of their sources,” the statement added.
