August 9th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan government announced on Wednesday that it has increased its oil production by increasing the pumping of an additional 6,000 barrels of crude oil after reopening the Manga oilfield, bringing the country’s oil production to 180,000 barrels per day.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, oil minister Awow Daniel Chuang stated that if the numbers of barrels were converted into monetary figures, one would realize that the oil production, halted by the conflict, has begun to take a huge stride towards improvement.

“This is significant in our production and if we are to translate this figure into money, it would be a significant improvement in our revenue,” Awow said.

He further said the government aims to increase the levels of oil output to its previous maximum production with a view to boost other sectors.

“I am sure up to the end of this year, we shall be able to increase the production to our previous level to develop other sectors,” he added.

The announced increase in oil production came as the government had reopened the Manga oil field at Block 1 and 2 which were closed shortly following the outbreak of violence in the country.
