July 17th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s parties to the revitalized agreement signed in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa in September last year have identified eighteen (18) sites for the training of the unified army in the country, a senior opposition official has said.

South Sudan government and opposition groups signed in September last year a revitalized version of a 2015 peace agreement in an effort to end the five-year old civil war that has killed and displaced many people in the world’s youngest nation.

The agreement provided for the training of a joint force that will later represent the professional national army.

Speaking to Nyamilepedia on Tuesday, a senior opposition official said from Juba that the Joint Transitional Security Committee (JTSC) identified 18 sites for the training of a unified force that would make up South Sudan’s professional army.

I can tell you that the JTSC has reached an agreement among the members to create 18 sites to train our first professional army and that process will start very soon,” the official said from Juba on Wednesday.
