AU envoy urges South Sudan parties to end stalemate over unity gov’t formation
May 26th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A Kenyan politician and African Union envoy has urged South Sudan leaders to show commitment in ending the ongoing civil war so that a unity government which was supposed to be formed last week is in place.
Raila Odinga, ex-Kenyan Prime Minister and African Union Envoy for Infrastructure and Development met President Salva Kiir Mayardiit last week at the state house J1 over the country’s implementation of peace agreement signed last September by the government with opposition groups.
The Kenyan politician and AU diplomat said he wants to see peace in South Sudan saying there is need for the parties to solve stalemates so that the government is formed.
“I would like to see peace and tranquility return to South Sudan. There is need to resolve the stalemates so that the government can be formed, and start functioning normally,” he said following a meeting with President Salva Kiir in Juba.
“We know there are challenges, but they can all be resolved if everybody agrees to work together. I want to appeal to everybody involved to show goodwill and commitment, and concern to the people of South Sudan,” he added.
