South Sudan opposition body calls for dismissal and arrest of spy chief over members’ killing
May 2nd 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A body belonging to the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) has called for dismissal and arrest of South Sudan’s head of National Security Service, General Akol Koor over the killing of two prominent members.
On Tuesday, a United Nations panel of investigators concluded that South Sudan’s head of National Security Service (NSS), General Akol Kor, ordered the deportation – from Kenya – and subsequent killing of two prominent members of the opposition, Dong Samuel Luak, and Aggrey Iddri.
In reaction, the SPLM-IO Students’ League condemned the killing and called for the removal and subsequent arrest of General Akol Kor for involvement in the death of the two prominent opposition members.
“The SPLM(IO) Students’ League condemns this act of cowardice in strongest terms possible,” said a statement signed by the SPLM-IO Students’ League Secretary-General, Gattuor Kiir.
“The director of ISB [Internal Security Bureau] should immediately be relieved of his duties as a holder of public office and put under investigation by a competent court of law,” the statement added.
The opposition body as well urged the government of the Republic of Kenya “to rein in their citizens who conspired in the illegal kidnapping of our comrades that were legitimately given asylum there as per the mandate of the UN. The Kenya government should also summon and take action against the South Sudanese ambassador for the reported clandestine participation of the South Sudanese embassy in the kidnapping and the deportation of those comrades who were under the protection of the Kenya government as refugees.”
