South Sudanese in Uganda invited to attend funeral service for Gen. Peter Gatdet

April 21st 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The family of General Peter Gatdet Yaka who passed away in the Sudanese capital Khartoum last week has invited the South Sudanese public in Uganda to attend a funeral service due tomorrow in the country’s Bweyale town.

General Peter Gatdet Yaka, the leader of the South Sudan United Movement and Army (SSUM/A) passed away on Monday in the Sudanese capital Khartoum of heart attack following a lengthy battle with high-blood pressure according to relatives and close aides.

In a statement to the Nyamilepedia on Friday, Samuel Chan Mut Turoah, a member of General Peter Gatdet’s family, said the funeral would be conducted on Monday, April 22nd 2019 at Kiryandango district of Bweyale town.

“We, the family of late General Peter Gatdet would like to invite friends, loved ones, Nuer
community and South Sudanese communities in Uganda for the funeral service which is scheduled to
take place in Kiryandongo district, Bweyale town Council on coming Monday 22nd April 2019 at 12:00 PM,” he said in the statement to Nyamilepedia.

Before his death, General Gatdet was also a de facto leader of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) which fractured in November last year following a disputed election between him and Gabriel Changson Chang.

He is a signatory to the revitalized peace agreement signed in September last year by opposition groups with South Sudan government in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.
