April 22nd 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A senior opposition official has referred to President Salva Kiir’s Easter message as ‘disgusting’ saying it speak of how the government in Juba is not committed to the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement.

In his annual Easter message this weekend, President Kiir called on his arch-rival turned peace partner, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, to return to Juba to make preparations for the formation of the unity government expected next month.

Kiir’s call came despite claims by opposition groups that the peace implementation has install over the number of state, and the formation of a unified army during the transitional period.

“It is Disgusting, the ill thought statement on Easter Day by President Salva Kiir. It is clear that in the minds of the regime in Juba, the whole Revitalize Agreement is about formation of yet another transitional government and not implementation,” said SPLM-IO representative to NCAC Oyet Nathaniel Pierino in a statement to the Nyamilepedia.

“There is nothing new. This is a clear vindication of no change of attitude and political direction. The little political will nurtured over the few months is quickly fading away,” he added.

The opposition official further said the unification of forces that would lead to the formation of a unified national army for South Sudan and the issue of the states has been thrown away to undermine the peace process by the government.

“The Pre-Transitional Agreement including unification of forces, number of states and boundaries etc. have been thrown through the windows either in Juba or at the Vatican Guesthouse,” the opposition official added.
