April 7th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A peace conference between two opposition governments of Sobat and Adar states is under way in opposition-held Malual County in Upper Nile region, an opposition spokesman told the Nyamilepedia on Firday.

Yen Pouch, the SPLM-IO spokesman and minister of information for Sobat state said the conference which is being held to solve differences between Eastern Jikany civilians is attended by two governors of Sobat, Maj. Gen. Banak Riang, and Adar Maj. Gen. Pal Kuon.

Mr. Yien said the four-day meeting which started last Thursday is expected to discuss and find solutions to many community issues including feuds between the Gatjaak and the Gatjiok sections of the Jikany-Nuer.

In January, fighting erupted between the two sections of the Eastern Jikany community in a refugee camp in Ethiopia between rival Jikany community sections in a refugee camp in the neighboring Ethiopia killing six people and wounding thirty-eight others.

“We want to let our people know, that we [have] started four-day [peace] conference organized by the sons and daughters of the two Nuer sub-clans of Eastern Jikany,” Yen told the Nyamilepedia in a phone call on Friday. “On the first day, we laid down [the] agenda of the conference and these includes revisiting of our historic[al] unity, [inter]marriage, how to solve death if it occurred between the two clans, unity and how to strengthen the relationship between the SPLM/A-IO with the community.”

The conference was also attended by county commissioners of the two opposition states as well as opposition military leaders in the two states. Community leaders of the Easter Jikany who came from abroad also attended the conference.
