March 15th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The Technical Boundary Committee (TBC) will complete it’s task early next week, a prominent opposition leader told the Nyamilepedia on Thursday.

The TBC is a body established by the revitalized peace agreement signed in September last year by South Sudan government and opposition groups in Addis Ababa.

It is tasked to define and demarcate the tribal areas of South Sudan as they stood on January 1st 1956 and the tribal areas in dispute in the country. The committee consists of experts drawn from IGAD and Troika countries.

In an exclusive interview with the Nyamilepedia on Thursday in the Egyptian capital Cairo, Gabriel Changson Lew Chang  leader of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) said the boundary committee will complete it’s task next week and the IBC will starts.

“The TBC is going to complete it’s work by next week [and] IBC [Independent Boundary Commission] will start on 18th [March],” he said.

He said the IGAD Special Envoy for South Sudan, Ambassador Ismail Wais has invited all the members of the IBC for a meeting due for Monday in Juba.

He said during this meeting,  the TBC will present it’s findings and recommendations to the IBC and the IBC will start it’s work.

“The special envoy of IGAD has invited all the members of the IBC to meet in Juba on the 18th to 19th of this month,” he said.

“The TBC definitely by next week, I am sure, will raise it’s report to the IBC which has just been established and the IBC will start it’s work,” he added. “But we don’t know whether they will have the ability to complete their work before the 12th of May.”

Despite the uncertainty whether the issue of the states and borders would be resolved as soon as required by the agreement, Changson said the parties are making their best to make sure that all these preparations are met before the formation of the unity government in May.

“We are working to make sure that the issue of the states is resolved before the 12th of May. We are working very hard to make sure that the necessary forces will be deployed before the 12th of May,” he said.
