BREAKING: Opposition delegates in Juba kicked out of hotels over financial arrears

March 13th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – Delegates from South Sudan opposition groups who are on peace implementation process in the capital Juba have said that they have been kicked out of hotels over failure by the government of President Salva Kiir to pay hotel costs.

The SPLA-IO deputy spokesperson, Col. Lam Paul Gabriel, who is also a part of the group’s delegation in Juba said during a press conference this morning that their hotel rooms have been locked for them and that they cannot even access their belongings.

He said the opposition delegates who are in the Juba for peace mission is going through hardship and a lot of difficulties have been encountered for the last one week saying hotels have also cut services for them.

“We are going through a lot of difficulties here in Juba we are being harassed by the hotel management in Juba I can give you an example of Grand Hotel for about four to five days now Juba Grand have cut some services from the Opposition teams that are here for the security arrangements our people have not been receiving food and water for five days now,” he said. 

Lam further said the hotel management has been harassing them over the failure by the government to pay the hotel management their money and that the rooms have been locked for them and were told that they will be allowed in once they are paid.

“The hotel managers decided to lock the doors of the hotel rooms for the delegations and this has happened in Dembesh hotel have decided to lock people out that when they are paid they will allow people to enter again inside,” SPLA-IO deputy spokesman Lam Paul Gabriel said during a press conference in Juba today.
