South Sudan opens emergency police call center in Wau town

February 17th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan government through the help of the government of Japan opened on Saturday opened a police Emergency Call Center (ECC) in the Western Bahr Al-Ghazal state capital Wau.

The Japanese embassy in Juba said in a statement that the launching was attended by the Japanese Ambassador to Juba upon an invitation from the South Sudan’s Minister of Interior Michael Chiengjiek Gey as well as the Inspector General of the South Sudan Police Service Gen. Majak Akec.

“On 16th February, Ambassador Okada visited Wau to attend the launching ceremony of Police Emergency Call Center (ECC) of Wau, together with Hon. Lt. Gen. Michael Chiangjiek, the Minister of Interior, Gen. Majak Akec, the Inspector General of Police, and high level delegation of UNDP and UNPOL,” the Japanese mission said in a statement seen by the Nyamilepedia.

The statement further stated that: “Japan supported for establishment of ECC in Wau as well as training there together with UNDP as an implementation partner.”

Now, citizens will be able to call 112 or 777 for free from MTN or Zain to report any emergency situation in Wau town.
