February 13th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – Bul community leaders in diaspora has urged South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit, to order an “immediate” release of the detained army officer, Gen. Buay Rolnyang.

Buay who is from South Sudan’s Mayom county was arrested in May 2018 after the government accused him of attempting to rebel against the state following clashes between him and Gen. Matthew Puljang, a Mayom-based militia commander loyal to the government.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, leaders of the Bul community in the USA, Canada, Australia, Europe, Kenya, Uganda, Sudan, Egypt, Ethiopia and Israel expressed “deepest concern over the arrest and the detention of our son Maj. Gen. Stephen Buay [Rolnyang] who [was] betrayed and whose arrest was coordinated in Mayom on 30th of May 2018,” the joint statement extended to the Nyamilepedia said.

“We, the Bul community leadership worldwide, are demanding the immediate released of Stephen Buay Rolnyang Kai,” they said in the statement adding that the community is concerned about the impeded legal access by Buay saying it is a “violation of his rights in accordance with the constitution of South Sudan which guarantees the right of all South Sudanese people,” to legal representation.

They further said the South Sudan government must “either release Gen. Stephen Buay” or try him in a “timely manner in accordance with the rule of law and to grant him access to his family.”
