February 9th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The defense team of Gen. Buay Rolnyang who is currently under trial in the capital Juba has pulled out of the trial to protest what they calls ‘illegal’ procedure by the court in handling Buay’s case, sources have said.

Early this month,  South Sudan’s army chief,  Gen. Gabriel Jok Riak, formed a committee to try Gen. Buay Rolnyang who was arrested in May 2018 following fighting in Unity state’s Mayom.

Buay currently is facing treason charges for trying to rebel against the state.

Speaking to the Nyamilepedia on Saturday, a senior military officer of the SSPDF who is familiar with the process said the defense team have pulled out  of the court after Buay himself refused to recognize the court.

“His defense team have pulled out of the court martial because they say it is an illegal procedure for the army chief to set a committee against a senior army general,” the sources which preferred not to be named told the Nyamilepedia on Saturday.

Another source told the Nyamilepedia on the condition of anonymity on Wednesday that Buay’s “objection to the committee is not considered [an issue by the committee and the army].”

The source further said the sitting was adjourned indefinitely.
