February 6th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A senior member of the South Sudan United Front (SSUF) led by the country’s former army chief, Gen. Paul Malong Awan, have returned to the capital Juba and announced his decision to rejoin the government.
Loius Anei Madut, former governor of Warrab state, accused Malong of rejecting a number of peace initiative between him and President Salva Kiir saying the former has “even” defied similar calls by South Sudanese elders.
“Malong do not want peace with anyone while he do not have any reason to continue the war against the people of South Sudan. He cannot even respond positively to many peace initiatives by a number of South Sudan elders,” he said.
“So, I believe this is the best time to join the government in order to help in the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement signed by all parties,” he added.
He further added that he was also responding to several calls made to him by his community to return to the country to join the government for peace implementation.
For his part, the Presidential Press Secretary Ateny Wek Ateny welcomed the return of the former governor thanking him “for responding to the amnesty granted by President Kiir and return home to work for peace and development of the nation.”
Anei defected to Malong in May 2018. Before that, he resigned as the Secretary-General of the Jieng Council of Elders (JCE) and formed own political party known as the Republican Party of South Sudan.
He was also a technical advisor in the country’s ministry of culture youth and sport before his defection to Malong.
