Sudanese rebel leader killed near Chadian border – reports
February 4th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The leader of the Sudan Liberation Army-Minni Minawi or SLA-MM, Suleiman Arcua Minnawi, popularly known as Minni Minnawi has reportedly been killed this morning near the Chadian border.
Several sources have claimed that the rebel leader was killed during a joint French-Chadian airstrike against unidentified rebel convoy which was crossing through Chad from the neighboring Libya to Sudan.
“Yes, we have also heard the same news. I think it is true but we are making a confirmation and we will make it public as soon as possible,” a military source in the Sudanese capital Khartoum told the Nyamilepedia this afternoon.
Another source told the Nyamilepedia from the Western Darfur state capital Jeneina that the rebel leader was killed overnight by a joint Chadian-French airstrike but could not tell if the body was found.
“He was killed early today by the Chadian and French air force,” the source said.
Minawi is a Sudanese politician who was born in 1968 in Furawiyya, North Darfur.
If confirmed, his death will be a huge embarrassment to the already fragile rebel movement in Western Sudan.
Officials from the rebel group could not be reached for comment.
