Kiir, Former Detainees discuss Arusha reunification accord

January 29th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President,  Salva Kiir Mayardiit, and members of the SPLM Former Detainees discussed in a meeting held at J1 on Tuesday the SPLM reunification process.

SPLM factions in 2015 signed the Arusha Reunification Accord in a bid to end party rivalry which ignited the ongoing civil war in December 2013.

Warring SPLM factions in January 2015 signed the Arusha Reunification Agreement in a bid to end party infighting and enmity which ignited the ongoing South Sudanese civil war in December 2013.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Presidency said Kiir and the Former Detainees met at the Presidential Palace J1 and discussed the reunification accord.

“President Salva Kiir Mayardit met on Tuesday with members of the Former Political Detainees headed by Mr. Deng Alor Kuol,” they statement by the Presidency said.

“The meeting discussed issues related to the implementation of the peace agreement in the country in addition to the file of the unification of the parties of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement,” it added.

The Presidency said the meeting was attended by the Presidential Advisor on Security Who is also the Chairperson of the National Pre-Transitional Committee (NPTC).

“The meeting was attended by the President’s Advisor for Security Affairs and head of the National Pre-Transitional Committee, Mr. Tut Gatluak,” adding that Deng Alor Kuol who headed the former detainees team “was accompanied by Dr. Majak De ’Agot, John Luk Jok, Madut Biar and General Mach Paul.”
