January 13th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – As a part of a confidence-building process, opposition faction of National Salvation Front (NAS) led by Gen. Khalid Butrus and Terekeka state government have celebrated peace deal in Terekeka on Thursday according to a opposition spokesman.

South Sudan government signed a peace deal with opposition groups in September last year in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa following months of intense negotiation between different delegates from the parties who only had until August 5th to reach a preliminary deal.

In a statement to the Nyamilepedia on Sunday, NAS-KhB spokesman, Jacob Lado Paul, said a team led by the NAS faction’s leader Khalid Butrus had arrived in Terekeka and conducted peace celebration with the state government there.

“On 10th January 2019 Peace Celebration took place in Terekeka state marking confidence building between government forces and NAS led by Lt. General Khalid Butrus,” he said in a statement to the Nyamilepedia.

The statement further said the confident-building “occasion aimed to promote security and peace in the state [with all the parties] promising their commitment to [the] R-ARCSS and safe return of internally displaced persons or refugees from camps to live normal and decent lives in their native villages.”

“NAS forces headed by major General Emmanuel Wani in Terekeka state promised to work in collaboration with the state authorities to provide security for returnees and the entire population of the state,” he added.

The statement further extended calls to other South Sudan states to conduct similar confidence-building process to assure the people of South Sudan that peace have returned.
