Peace monitoring body welcomes EU pledge to continue financial support

January 10th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s peace monitoring body, the Ceasefire and Transitional Security Arrangement, Monitoring and Verification Mechanism (CTSAMVM) welcomed on Wednesday a decision by the European Union (EU) to continue rendering financial support for the peace monitoring body.

The Ceasefire and Transitional Security Arrangement, Monitoring Mechanism (CTSAMM) is mandated to monitor compliance by South Sudan’s warring parties to the revitalized peace deal signed by South Sudan government and opposition groups in the Ethiopian Addis Ababa in September last year.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the peace monitoring body, the Chairman of the CTSAMVM, welcomed the pledge by the European Union (EU) to continue supporting the peace monitoring body so as to enable it to carry out its activities.

“The CTSAMVM Chairman welcomes the decision by the European Union to continue its financial support to the CTSAMVM mission,” the brief statement partly said.

The statement further added that the peace monitoring body “is an important mechanism for ensuring accountability for those who violate the ceasefire agreement and in restoring peace and stability in South Sudan.”

It further said that current donors of the body includes the Republic of Ireland, the Netherlands, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Norway, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Japan and the Peoples Republic of China.

“CTSAMVM would also like to thank the other donor countries, particularly Qatar and Turkey who have recently expressed an interest in funding the mechanism also,” the stattment added.
