Rebel group denies attacking civilians along Yei Roads
December 29th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – A holdout opposition group denied on Wednesday claims that it carries out attacks against civilians along roads leading to and from Yei River state capital Yei.
This week, the South Sudan army, the SSPDF, claimed in a statement that the National Salvation Front (NAS) led by Gen. Thomas Cirilo carried out attack against civilians vehicles and abducted civilians.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the NAS spokesman Suba Samuel Manase denied the accusations condemning for his part the attack which he said was carried our by government troops and those loyal to the SPLA-IO because the two control most of the raids leading to Yei town.
“Yei-Kaya road is controlled by SSPDF and SPLM-IO respectively. SSPDF are based in Mugwo County and SPLM IO Headquarter is in Panuyume Payam, Morobo County,” he said.
“All these positions are found along Yei Morobo road. On the other hand, NAS does not have a single base along this mentioned corridor,” he added.
He said the mission of his group is to save the people of South Sudan from the regime of Salva Kiir Mayardiit and as such they have got attacked the civilian facilities.
“National Salvation Front’s mission is to contribute towards the emancipation of the suffering people of South Sudan from the oppression and subjugation imposed by the Salva Kiir regime In Juba,” he said.
The NAS, which pulled out of talks in September, is not a signatory of the revitalized peace deal which it rejected citing claims that the IGAD failed to incorporate it’s demands to a then proposed peace deal.
