December 24th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The SPLM-IO Chairperson of National Committee for Security and Defense Angelina Teny who is currently in the country’s capital Juba over security arrangements has urged the holdout opposition groups to join the ongoing peace process in the country.

Angelina Teny, who also met President Salva Kiir Mayardiit in his office J1 today, urged in particular the group led by Gen. Thomas Cirilo Swaka to join the ongoing process to implement the September peace agreement.

Teny further said she delivered to the South Sudanese leader a letter from the SPLM-IO leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon on how to implement the revitalized peace agreement and also delivered a letter of congratulations on the occasion of the Christmas and the new year.

Under regional and international pressure,  South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit and opposition leader Dr.  Riek Machar Teny signed a peace deal in September in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa to end the war.

The agreement in Addis Ababa followed months of intense negotiations among delegates of the government and opposition who must, by the time,  sign a pact or face international or further regional isolation.

The National Salvation Front led by Gen. Thomas Cirilo declined to sign the peace agreement saying the IGAD has refused to solve most outstanding issued ranging from the question of federalism and the number of states during the transitional period.

The government in late October conducted a peace celebration ceremony in the capital Juba and was attended by regional leaders as well as the SPLM-IO leader Dr. Machar.
