N. Liech Gov. Manytuil meets Bentiu PoCs leaders in preparation for peace celebrations
December 20th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s governor of Northern Liech state, Dr. Joseph Nguen Manytuil Wijang, on Thursday met with representatives of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) from the Bentiu PoCs in preparation for peace celebration in the state capital due for next week.
South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit, and opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar on September 20 signed a revitalized version of the 2015 peace deal in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.
The agreement followed months of intense discussion in the Sudanese capital Khartoum between government and opposition delegates who were then engaging each other to find a solution to the five-year old conflict.
In an exclusive interview with the Nyamilepedia on Thursday, Northern Liech state Advisor on Political Affairs, Hon. Doctor Chotyeer Koryoum said the reasons for the meeting was to prepare the state for peace celebrations which he said was supposed to be conducted on December 22 but adjourned to a later date.
“[The meeting was on] peace and reconciliation across the state including Pocs [and] preparations for the upcoming peace celebration in Bentiu town and Pocs,” he told the Nyamilepedia on Thursday.
The senior state official further revealed to the Nyamilepedia that the government and the IDPs representatives have agreed to form a join organizing committee for the celebration.
“The Government of Northern Liech state and peace leadership agreed to have a join committee for the upcoming peace celebrations,” he said.
He added that members from the SPLM-IO will also attend the celebration including the opposition governor of Liech state Brig. Gen. Tor Tungwar Kueguong.
“The Governor Dr. Joseph Manytuil [have also] confirmed the participation of the SPLM-IO’s military governor and his officials including the field generals…. Hon. Tor will attend it,” he said adding that “Dr. Manytuil has continues contact with them.”
