Rival Maiwut state governors celebrates peace deal in Pagak town

December 19th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – Rival South Sudan governors of Maiwut state on Tuesday came together and organized a peace celebratory event in the capital Pagak, government and opposition officials alike told the Nyamilepedia on Tuesday evening.

In a statement issued on Tuesday evening by the state Minister of Education Duop A. Bichiok, the two governors, Maj. Gen. Bol Ruai Room of the South Sudan government and Maj. Gen. Stephen Pal Kuon of the SPLM-IO along the National Minister of Petroleum Amb. Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth all attended the event.

According the state minister, the two governors agreed to work together in order to disseminate the revitalized peace deal signed by President Kiir and First Vice President designate Dr. Riek Machar Teny in Addis Ababa in September.

“Today, 18th, December 2018, the two governors, Major General, Hon. Bol Ruach Rom [of the South Sudan government] and Major General, Hon. Stephen Pal Kuon, [of the SPLM-IO] signed a memorandum of understanding on how to work hand in hand to disseminate the Revitalization Peace agreement and allow free movement to the people of State,” he said in the brief seen by the Nyamilepedia.

South Sudan President, Salva Kiir and opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar signed the long awaited revitalized peace deal in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa to end the five-year old conflict currently ongoing in the country.

The agreement signed in the Ethiopian capital following tough negotiations for months in Khartoum came as result of regional efforts spearheaded by the intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) to end the most brutal African conflict.
