Kiir, South African VP discuss South Sudan’s peace implementation

December 13th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President,  Salva Kiir Mayardiit who is currently in the South African administrative capital Pretoria has discussed the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement with the members of the South African government.

The South Sudan Presidency announced in a statement yesterday that Kiir met the South African Vice-President upon arrival from South Sudan.

“His Excellency, President Salva Kiir Mayardit held a constructive meeting with the South African Deputy President David Mabuza , who is the Special Envoy of President Ramaphosa to South Sudan,” the Presidency announced in the statement seen by the Nyamilepedia.

The statement revealed that the two leaders discussed issues ranging from bilateral ties between the two countries to the implementation of the revitalized peace deal signed in September between the South Sudan government and opposition groups on Addis Agana.

“They Discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and issues concerning the Implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement in South Sudan,” the statement added.

According to the statement,  the South African deputy president who is also a peace envoy for South Sudan also briefed President Kiir over his recent visit to Sudan and some countries in east Africa to enforce the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement.

“The South Africa Deputy President briefed President Kiir about his last visit to Sudan, Kenya and Uganda. In addition, H.E. David emphasized the commitment of South Africa to the Peace in South Sudan and the region at large,” added the statement.

South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit and opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny in September signed a revitalized version of 2015 peace agreement to end the war.

The agreement followed a lengthy regional efforts spearheaded by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) to try to end the five year-old brutal conflict which engulfed the young African nation in December 2013.
