December 6th, 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s former military chief of general staff, Gen. Malong Awan Anei, has been denied a visit to neighboring Uganda over unclear circumstances, a source in Nairobi close to Malong told the Nyamilepedia on Thursday morning.

Malong is the leader of the South Sudan United Movement and Army (SSUF/A). The armed opposition group, however, has not waged any significant war nor fought a remarkable battle against South Sudan government despite repeated claims by Malong that he will remove President Salva Kiir from power.

Speaking to the Nyamilepedia on Thursday morning, a senior aide allied to Gen. Paul Malong Awan said Malong was denied a visit to Uganda from Kenya but could not clarify whether Malong’s visit to the southern neighbor would have been political or personal.

“Yesterday evening, Gen. Paul Malong was notified by the [Ugandan] embassy authorities that he can not travel to Uganda at the moment in light of some regional concerns and I think they meant the South Sudan conflict although they did not mention,” the aide told the Nyamilepedia on the condition of anonymity from Nairobi Kenya.

Asked by the Nyamilepedia whether Malong’s visit is related to the detention of South Sudanese millionaire, Lawrence Lual Malong Yor, who has been detained by Uganda authorities for almost a month now, the aide replied “I can not comment on that, I must tell you what I know about Malong’s supposed visit.”

It has been speculated that Lawrence Lual Malong Yor is the stepson of Gen. Paul Malong, former South Sudanese Army Chief, turned rebel leader. However, in October, Malong and Lual together appeared in a Kenyan television show to deny that they are related to each other threaten to legally ‘pursue’ those saying that Lual is a stepson of Gen. Malong.
