December 6th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The embattled and hosted leader of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) Gabriel Changson Lew Chang who is also the leader of the Federal Democratic Party (FDP) has dismissed members of his group for allegedly supporting the election of Gen. Peter Gatdet Yaka as the new leader of the SSOA.

On Friday, November 30th, the Leadership Council of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) met in the Sudanese capital Khartoum and elected Gen. Peter Gatdet by 62.5% to replace Changson whose 6-months term expired.

Gatdet’s election led to a dispute between those supporting him and those who are still, despite Gatdet’s election by a large margin, loyal to Changson Chang who is resisting to step down.

In a statement issued on Wednesday from the Sudanese capital Khartoum, Changson dismissed Thomas Peter Okacb, Chanjok Neilak Oraj, Simon Otiek Ayul and Zakariya Paulino Oyai after accusing them of planning to form another faction of his FDP and supporting the election of Gen. Peter  Gatdet.

“This is the violation of the party principles and norms. Therefore, the Leadership decided to terminate their membership from FDP/SSAF with effect from 04th December 2018,”Changson said in a statement extended to the Nyamilepedia.

The South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) is an umbrella of armed South Sudan opposition groups fighting the government of President Salva Kiir Mayardiit. The alliance is also a signatory to the revitalized agreement and its split, according observers, is likely a disaster to the agreement.
