October 31st 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – Sudanese President Omar Hassan Ahmed Al-Bashir has been awarded a doctorate of Philosophy, peace and Diplomacy by the Institute of Peace, Development and Security Studies at the University for his ‘quest’ for peace in South Sudan and the region in general.

Bashir, according to the vice chancellor of the University of Juba, was awarded the doctorate because of his commitment to the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), his respect for the outcome of the 2011 Southern Sudan Referendum and his support for the South Sudan peace process.

The Sudanese President signed in 2005 the comprehensive peace agreement with then rebel group, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army (SPLM/A) ending 21 years of a bloody civil war which had destroyed the Southern part of the Sudan.

The 2005 peace agreement paved the way for the January 2011 referendum which resulted into the separation of South Sudan from Sudan.

Following the fighting between the two Sudan over Heglig, Bashir signed the September 12 2012 Cooperation Agreement in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.

Kiir Machar honored for accepting peace

South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit and main armed opposition leader and the first vice president designate, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, were also been honored by the South Sudanese women for accepting to peacefully settle the ongoing civil war in the country.

Machar has been on the forefront in the search for peace since the country descended into civil war in December 2013 between national presidential guards loyal to him and Kiir igniting an ethnic massacre against the Nuer in the capital Juba.
