Sudanese gov’t: border demarcation process with South Sudan reaches advanced stages

October 22nd 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The Sudanese government said on Sunday that the border demarcation process between Sudan and South Sudan have reached an advanced stages towards the final demarcation during the meeting conducted by the countries parties in Addis Ababa.

South Sudan, the world’s youngest country, broke away from Sudan in July 2011 following a vote in January the same year by the South Sudanese people to determine whether they will remain united with Sudan or they will form a separate country.

However, several issues have remained pending including the the border demarcation as well as the conflict over contested areas. Abyei, Heglig as well as Jebelen are among five contested areas between the two countries.

In a statement to the semi-state website, the Sudanese Media Centre (SMC), the head of the Sudan’s Border Demarcation Commission (BDC) Taaiz Tango said the process on the border demarcation between the two countries have reached an advanced stage.

Tango said that the meetings of the Commission on the demarcation of the border between Sudan and South Sudan which held recently in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa reached advanced steps in along the way towards agreement on the definition of the border.

He pointed out that the border with South Sudan is long stressing that they seek to achieve the completion of the final demarcation of the border after the negotiating parties uphold it to the heads of states of the two countries for final deliberation.
