October 21st 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The Sudanese government announced on Saturday that preparations to resume river transport with its southern neighbor, South Sudan, are under way and is expected to begin soon, Sudanese officials told the semi-state media, SMC.

The head of the Sudanese Businessmen in White Nile state, Professor Khader Ismail, told the Sudanese Media Centre (SMC) that the body have signed an agreement with South Sudanese cattle keepers union to resume livestock export to Sudan and to protect the pastures as well as for commercial exchange agreement with traders in the White Nile state.

Ismail, according to the Sudanese Media Centre (SMC) will resume via the Nile through Sobat River in Eastern Upper Nile as well as the opening of the borders to revive the Sudanese economy.

South Sudan descended into civil war in December 2013 following a flare-up of violence at a national convention of the ruling and fractured SPLM party igniting a fierce infighting within the country’s Presidential Guards between those supporting President Salva Kiir and former vice president Dr. Riek Machar Teny.

A peace agreement signed in August 2015 collapsed in July 2016 following a fighting between guards loyal to Machar and Kiir at the country’s Presidential Palace in Juba killing hundreds of troops from both sides.

The agreement was revitalized and was signed in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia by the two rival leaders following a month-long negotiations in the Sudanese capital Khartoum also stipulating the reopening of the borders and resumption of oil production in the country which had been stopped because of teh civil war.
