October 7th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The International Advocacy group, the Amnesty International urged on Sunday the government of South Sudan to release all the political detainees in a show of commitment to the permanent ceasefire agreement signed in Juba and the revitalized deal signed last month in Addis Ababa criticizing the country’s justice system.

The advocacy group said it is deeply concerned by the standoff between South Sudan security personnel and armed prisoners at a national security facility in the nation’s capital Juba demanding their release in compliance of the agreement on the release of the detainees.

Late night Saturday, South Sudanese detainees currently being detained at the Blue House, a notorious South Sudan National Security facility used for the detention of political detainees, took control of the facility demanding their immediate release.

In a press statement issued following the armed standoff between South Sudan’s infamous National Security guards and political detainees who have been held behind bars without charges, the advocacy group, Amnesty International, has strongly condemned South Sudan National Security Service (NSS) for keeping hundred of political detainees under incommunicado detention.

The human rights group decried continued harassment, tortures and mistreatment of inmates, and called  on South Sudan’s President Kiir  Mayardit to  ensure that political detainees and are immediately released or charge with fairer trails.

“Events at Blue House– notorious for prolonged incommunicado detention, torture & deaths in custody – point to deep problems with South Sudan justice system,” the statement said.

“President Kiir should keep his promise & ensure detainees are released or charged with a recognizable criminal offence,” the statement added.
