Insufficient budget facing South Sudan public universities: Minister

October 5th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s Minister of Education has said that public universities across the country are facing difficulties due to insufficient financial budget.

The South Sudan Presidency revealed on Friday that President Salva Kiir met with the minister of information and discussed the ways on how to cement the financial support from the government for public universities.

“H.E, President Salva Kiir Mayardiit pledged to meet with all the Vice Chancellors of South Sudan public universities to understand the situation and challenges facing the institutions and students,” the statement by the South Sudan Presidency said.

It said the meeting between President Salva Kiir and the Minister of Higher Education was attended by the former minister of higher education John Gai Yok who is currently the Presidential Advisor on Educational Affairs.

“This follows a meeting between President Salva Kiir and the Minister of Higher Education, Yen Oral Lam in the presence of the Presidential advisor on education affairs Dr. John Gai Yoah at the state house on Friday,” the statement said.

The statement said the minister of higher education has stated that the major challenge facing the public educational institutions is the insufficient fianincial funds.

“The Minister of Higher Education Yen Oral Lam described insufficient budget as the major challenge facing the institutions. Minister Yen said, President Salva Kiir pledged to stand firm in supporting the educational sector,” the statement said.
