Civil society group urges Lake states leaders to address security issues

September 25th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The Civil Society Organization Networks (CiSON) in Lake states have urged the authorities there to address security issues in the three states of the greater lake region during an upcoming peace conference due for October.

“The members Civil Society Organization Networks CiSON in Lakes states are calling two states government to reconsider using inter states conference to address security related issues in the area,” said a statement issued by Daniel Laat Kon, the group’s communication officer.

Lat revealed that the authorities in Lakes States are expected to conduct a three-days peace conference between October 1st to October 3rd and the civil society group urged the leaders to use the opportunity to address security issues affecting the states.

“The authorities of Lakes region, comprising Western Lakes, Eastern Lakes and Gok states are preparing to conduct a peace conference on 1st October in Western Lakes state. The three days conference is expected to discuss security matters and other challenges facing authorities of the three states of greater Lakes.The Civil Society Organizations Network in Lakes region appeal to both leaders in the region to use this forum to discuss openly and address security related issue among their borders,” Lat said in a statement.

He said the CSO condemn recent killings of two citizens, one a health worker and a student.

“It’s very unfortunate that people’s hope for peace after disarmament exercise in greater Lakes region are being drain and declining everyday,” he said in the statement extended to the Nyamilepedia.
