Kiir leaves Juba for Khartoum: Presidency
September 21st 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit has left the capital Juba this afternoon for the Sudanese capital Khartoum to participate in a ceremony organized by the Sudanese Presidency to celebrate the signed peace agreement with opposition groups.
South Sudan President, Salva Kiir and opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar signed the long awaited revitalized peace deal in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa last week to end the five-year old brutal conflict.
In a statement today, the South Sudan Presidency said Kiir has left the capital Juba heading for Khartoum to participate in the ceremony organized by his Sudanese counterparts Omar Al-Bashir.
“H.E. Gen. Salva Kiir Mayaardit departed from Juba International Airport in a celebratory mood this afternoon, waving to crowds as government dignitaries that looked on,” the Presidency announced in a statement.
They statement added that Kiir will participate in the ceremony organized at the Sudanese Presidency.
“The President of the Republic of South Sudan is expected to take part in celebrations in the Sudanese capital Khartoum, for the signing of the peace agreement inked on the 12th of September 2018,” the statement added.
President Kiir is also expected to meet opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny upon arrival in the present of the Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir.
