Fighting continues in Yei River State, rebels says they have been attacked

September 13th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – Attacks by government troops have continued for the second as South Sudan President, Salva Kiir and opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny agrees on peace in Addis Ababa, a rebel spokesman have said.

Yesterday, fighting break out in Kajo-keji in Yei river states and the opposition troops loyal to the former First Vice President, once again the First Vice President designate,  accused government troops for waging the latest offensive.

In a statement issued this evening by the SPLA-IO deputy spokesman Lam Paul Gabriel, government troops again resumed yesterday’s offensive on a rebel stronghold in the state.

“This morning the 13/09/2018 at about 7:00AM, the regime’s forces in Agana resumed their attacks on our defensive positions at Kendiri and Mangalatore in Kajo-Keji County of Yei River State,” Lam said in the statement.

He said the attack is the second in its kind hereby the rebel group killed dozens of government troops along with some weapons captured.

“This is the third attack in a raw that the SPLA IO forces in Kajo-keji successfully defended against; with 15 enemy soldiers killed and several others wounded. 17 AK-47 captured in good working conditions,” he said.

He said as the attack came lest than a day after the revitalized deal is signed in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa urging the CTSAMM to investigate what he called violations by the regime in Juba.

“This serious and repeated attack happened less than 24hours since the peace agreement was signed in Addis Ababa-Ethiopia on 12/09/2018. The SPLA IO calls upon the CTSAMM and UNMISS to investigate these continues violations by the regime. The regime should stop this quest for bloodshed all the time,” he added.
