Machar: The war has ended

September 12th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s First Vice President designate Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon has told his top military officers that the ongoing civil in South Sudan has ended.

South Sudan government and opposition groups including Machar’s SPLM-IO signed a preliminary peace agreement on August 5th vowing to work together in a new transitional government of national unity.

The deal is set to conclude on Wednesday in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa and Machar and the rest of opposition delegates are already in Addis Ababa.

Speaking to the Semi-Official website, Sudanese Media Centre (SMC) the SPLM-IO deputy Chairperson of National Committee for Information and Public Relations Manawa Peter Gatkuoth said Machar has told his top military commanders that the war has ended and that they must assemble I’m areas identified during the discussion on the implementation matrix on security arrangements.

“Dr. Machar held an enlightening meeting with the SPLA-IO top commanders and assured them that the war is over and everyone is now in the process of building confidence to achieve peace in southern Sudan,” the SMC quoted Manawa as saying.

Manawa further revealed according to the SMC that after the final peace agreement is signed on Wednesday, the movement will nominate it’s representatives to the organs entrusted to oversee the agreement on the security arrangements.

For his part, South Sudan Presidential Advisor on Security Tutkew Gatluak who is also the government head of the government delegation to the peace negotiations in Khartoum, has confirmed that the South Sudanese parties are determined not to return to war again reiterating the government’s commitment to implement the peace agreement.
