wildlife service officer shot dead colleague in Juba

September 5th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – A South Sudan soldier working for the wildlife conservation and tourism has killed his colleague in Juba over a ‘peaceful’ urguement on Tuesday evening,  authorities have said.

Lt. John Kennedy, a wildlife officer in charge of Bandigilo National Park in Jubek state says private sergeant Hillary Peter shot dead his colleague Marko Lino while on argument.

“The suspect ‘Hillary Peter’ were in normally and peace arguments with late ‘Marko Lino’ in our outpost at Kimbi area in Bandigilo National Park around 9pm local time whereby the suspect went into his room and picked up a gun and gunned down ‘the deceased’ Marko with three bullets on the staff’s mess, and he died at the scene of the crime,” he said.

He added that the suspect has been arrested and police investigation, and deceased’s body was brought to Juba teaching Hospital for funeral parlor.

“We are still carting out the investigation over circumstances on which he killed his colleague,” the officer added.

The assistant director of anti-poaching and law enforcement at the wildlife headquarters in Juba Lt. Gen. Jok Madut said the incident is the second of its kind.

In March this year, private sergeant Daniel Dak was shot at his room by an unknown gunman saying the investigation is still ongoing pointing out that their work at the wildlife park is hindered because the life of wildlife police is endangered by well equipped poachers.

“The live of my forces are endangered in carrying out their duties across six national parks by armed and well equippued poachers,” Jok said.
