September 3rd 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) says it has been attacked by troops loyal to the South Sudan government in the Central Equatoria town of Jamara in Yei River state.

The SPLM-IO Spokesman for Yei River State governor Wayi Godwill Edward said in a statement seen by the Nyamilepedia that SPLA forces had attacked their positions last Wednesday when they launched a counter offensive to attack their previous held territory.

“This morning our gallant forces under a joint command of Birg. Gen. Emmanuel Lemi Lo Mukaya, Col. Samuel Gai and Col. Noel Lomeri launched a coordinated counter-attack after the SPLA captured Jamara and Kupera last Wednesday,” he said.

He pointed out that opposition troops has taken back the town.

“The anti-peace SPLA have been successfully flushed out and we have seized full control of our territory,” Wayi said in a statement.

The statement further revealed that thirteen (13) SPLA troops are still missing in action, a claim the Nyamilepedia can not independently verify.

“Thirteen SPLA soldiers went missing in action and scores are wounded while the rest are miserably scattered into the bushes and are being pursued by our brave force,” he said.

The statement further reiterated the group’s commitment to the ongoing IGAD-led peace process despite violations of the permanent ceasefire agreement signed in June by President Salva Kiir and opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar.

“In light of the constant aggression from Juba, we would want to remind our supporters and all South Sudanese that SPLM/A (IO) remains fully committed to the peace process as the less costly solution to the catastrophic war,” the statement further asserted.
