Amum slams Deng Alor for signing peace deal without prior consultation with him

August 29th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The leader of the SPLM-Former Detainees and the former Secretary General of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) Pagan Amum has slammed his chief negotiator, Nhial Deng Nhial for signing a peace agreement that he said favored the government.

In a statement seen by the Nyamilepedia, the former Seceretary-General said the Former Detainees regret the signing of the agreement by the former foreign miniter saying the later did that prematurely without prior consultation.

“We, the SPLM Leaders (Former Political Detainees – FDs) regret the initialing of the ‘final text’ of ARCSS by Cde Deng Alor Kuol as this has been done prematurely and without proper consultations, leaving many issues unresolved to become the bone of contention and seeds of future conflict,” partly read the statement he issued today.

He said the opposition the group can not sign a peace agreement with reservations which may be discussed afterward reiterating his statnce that they are fight for a good cause for teh people of South Sudan.

“At this eleventh hour, we can no longer rely on vague assurances of initialing or signing documents with reservations or having points of disagreements bracketed or referred to other bodies for decision. Similarly, we cannot shelve substantive issues for further negotiations during the time of implementation simply because we want to give the appearance of showing concern for ameliorating the suffering of our people,” adds the statement.

He said the issues of their concerns also are the same issues raised by other South Sudan Opposition groups including the South Sudan Opposition Alliance and said as such they need to be addressed first.

“These same issues have been identified by SSOA and other opposition groups as points of differences so they need to be addressed and resolved in order to assure sustainable peace,” he further said.
