August 13th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The South Sudan United Front (SSUF) led by the country’s former military chief of general staff Gen. Paul Malong Awan Anei said on a statement on Thursday that President Salva Kiir Mayardiit is incapable of leading the country.

The statement was initially a welcoming statement for a number of former government officials who joined defected and joined Malong’s growing rebel movement but later turned critical of president Salva Kiir Mayardiit.

“It is as such a bold stance that would pave way for the reinstatement of shattered hopes of the South Sudanese whose lives have been ruined with the country ravaged the unending war resulting from the inept leadership of incapable Salva Kiir Mayardiit,” partly read the statement.

Malong was the country’s army chief from 2014 to 2017 when President Salva Kiir turned against him after having been accused of planning to overthrow Kiir’s government by the country’s national security chief Akol Koor who reportedly advised Kiir to dismiss Malong.

Malong was dismissed in May 2017 and then left the capital Juba by land via Yirol heading to his hometown Aweil.

He was forcefully returned go the capital Juba by the army and put subsequently under house arrest until November 2017 when a group of Jieng Council officials succeeded in convincing Kiir to release Malong on health grounds.

He went to Nairobi after his release and in 2018, he launched an armed rebellion against Kiir after accusing him of running the country to total bankruptcy.
