Makuei said optimistic about final peace deal within the IGAD dateline

August 12th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s Information Minister and government spokesman Michael Makuei Lueth said on Saturday that he is optimistic that his government and opposition groups, including the main armed opposition faction, the SPLM-IO, will reach a final peace agreement within the IGAD dateline.

The IGAD, during the 64th Extraordinary Session of the Council of Ministers which took place in the Sudanese capital Khartoum on Thursday  adopted an implementation matrix and decided that the Khartoum round of talks will continue until the 19 August.

Makuei made the revelation during a press statement to journalists in the Sudanese capital Khartoum on Saturday.

“The outstanding issues are no longer an issue because we have agreed on all the issues and all what is needed is to harmonize all these documents an come with a final agreement,” Makuei said.

He said the government  delegation which remained in the Sudanese identified, negotiated and filed their position on six outstanding issues which he said were of minor concerns.

“After the signing of the agreement the government delegation has been working on the outstanding issue which we managed to identify as 6 issues,” minister Makuei said.

He further said the government delegation has made ready its position towards the outstanding issues and as such is waiting for the mediation to respond and that other opposition groups.

“So we have clear positions and waiting for the mediation to sit with us to decide on all these issues,” he further stressed.
